- 1) How many of the examiner's points did you manage to cover in your answers? I managed to cover 3 points which spoke about the media context and theory. I used theory such as binary opposition and bartz theory of enigma which helped relate to the question asked about enigma and genre between the two clips shown - eclipse and the right one.
2) How many examples did you provide in your answers that did not come from classwork? I gave a few examples of other media products such as vampire diaries etc which linked to the outsiders as it included vampires etc.
3) What will you do between now and the exam in June to ensure you have a wide variety of examples to refer to in questions two and three? I would revise all the media theories and programmes which I could add into my answers to back up my points such as more outsider movies and programmes. Also, I need to revise more media institutions and add in nor media language when writing.

Hegemony
Hegemony
In the 19th century, hegemony denoted the geopolitical and the cultural predominance of one country upon others; from which derived hegemonism, the Great Power politics meant to establish European hegemony upon continental Asia and Africa.
Marxist philosophy, the term Cultural Hegemony describes the domination of a culturally diverse society by the ruling class, who manipulate the culture of the society — the beliefs, explanations,perceptions, values, and mores — so that their ruling-class Weltanschauung becomes the worldview that is imposed and accepted as the cultural norm; as the universally valid dominant ideology that justifies the social, political, and economic status quo as natural and inevitable, perpetual and beneficial for everyone, rather than as artificial social constructs that benefit only the ruling class.

Representations of multi cultural people usually get stopped at immigration especially at the airport when the majority of people who get stopped are mostly Asian.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the debate on Islam and Muslim immigrants has moved into the centre of European political discourse. The increasing volume of publications about the role of Islam in social, cultural and political spheres indicates that Islam is now a major political issue, often associated with the debate on terrorism and security.
This article argues that the shift in focus should be understood as the result of a hegemonic shift that goes back to the mid-1980s when the populist far-right intervened in the immigration debate in Europe. The far-right not only presented immigration as a cultural threat to the future of European nations but also succeeded in moving immigration to the centre of political discourse. This was done through successive right-wing political interventions that helped establish Muslim immigrants as an incompatible ontological category predicated on culture, and kept the national focus on immigration as an imminent threat to ‘our common’ achievements.

Immediacy - has it happened recently ? Is it new? News broadcasts the events through radio , Internet etc. This is because new and digital media allows you to publicise the events making it more efficient for the public to be aware of what is going on. Twitter and other social networking sites have allowed users to get news faster
Familiarity - does it mean something to us ?
World news on news apps allow us to see news better, even on social networking websites we are able to see news that regards anything worldwide.
Frequency - is it something that happened fairly quick ? Citizen journalism has helped improve the speed of news, with citizens sending in pictures, news corporations and papers are able to view pictures sent in and post them in there papers
Ambiguity- is it clear and are the results/clash obvious ? Digital media has shown that even boring news has a place in the media, we are able to see categories of news that may not interest is but may others.
Predictability - is it predictable ? Some news is predictable, so a lot of people do not read it but with the upcoming World Cup we will see an increase in betting apps and sport apps
Surprise - is it rare or unexpected ? Rare news usually surprises the audience and news such as Lee Rigbys murder was a case that interested the audience vastly the growth of new and digital media has affected surprise as we see current events rather than aftermath.
Continuity - is a running story ? Current running news stories usually do not interest audiences but war stories do so citizen journalism is used and affected by the growth of new and digital media. Ukraine being an example.
Elite nations or people - has the event happened in a country ? Events such as the Ukraine riots and the interference of Russia and USA, was seen as elite news and with news conferences being streamed on apps we see the difference new and digital media has made.
Personalisation - is it a personal or human story ?
Inspirational stories have been given limelight by new and digital media and with the video website YouTube we see how new and digital media has affected audiences and stories.
Negativity - is it bad news? Audiences usually prefer bad news, it creates moral panic throughout the audience and new and digital media also allows us to see the current events rather than the aftermath this is helped with citizen journalism.
Exclusivity - are we the only news paper that has this story? The rise of new and digital media has gotten rid of the exclusivity factor for newspapers and much news is now broken via social networking sites for example Tom Daleys confession.
Visual impact - is this a strong image ? Citizen journalism has affected how strong images are, again with the lee rigby murder we saw explicit images of the actual murder which was sent into ITV
Balance - is it being used to counterbalance bad news ? Bad news is one that is seen as a good thing for news corporations but social networking sites are not able to do the same thing breaking news is broken on social networking sites but we see no counterbalance.

social networking will be around for 30 years however many people are using sites which people are giving false identification such as nicknames and avatars instead of showing who they really are. currently more people are giving their real identification as there are many more users on Facebook and MySpace etc. hence rather than making false accounts they are actually active users. this demonstrates that active years have an impact on social networking sites as more people are aware and are using it for socialising and being themselves rather than someone their not.

Boy rapes sister due to seeing pornography on game console
- Another story states a boy raping their sister after seeing porn on game console. The boy was with his friend playing xbox until he saw pornography on the game to which he then tried to show sexual action towards his younger sister who then got taken to social services. she is now on the sex offenders list for 2 and a half years due to this however is not stating what exactly happened as she loves and misses her brother. however, due to this case, the brother will not be able to come back until the situation is fully dealt with. this shows that new and digital media is becoming more corrupt as pornography is shown in game consoles knowing that young people are most likely to play this.

- Many people are buying expensive things such as watches not to wear or for their needs but to show off by posting photos up of their matetialistic goods which cost a lot just so that people are aware of this. People are posting pictures up on Facebook and Instagram showing off their expensive goods. This shows that people have become more matetialistic minded as they buy things just to show them off.
